How to tie a CDC & Biot Nymph

In this fly tying tutorial, Gordon van der Spuy shows you exactly how to tie a jig nymph using a turkey biot as the abdomen and a CDC hackle. The fly has three main ingredients that makes it smash fish and they are:

  • Nymph-like profile
  • In-built mobility (from the CDC hackle)
  • Tungsten bead that gets it down to where the fish are holding

But as always with Gordon’s fly tying tutorials, it’s not about the specific pattern but rather the small details and tricks that he teaches you that makes the difference.

Spend time watching the video as there are small subtle techniques that he shows that won’t just make tying this fly easier, but it will up your entire fly-tying game.

The great thing about the nymph tied by Gordon here is that it serves as a platform. You can swop the materials for something else and play with colours to suit the specific scenario you’re fishing.
