The Stillwater Buzzer Fly is a highly effective pattern designed to imitate midge pupae, commonly known as buzzers. Midges make up a large portion of a trout’s diet in stillwaters, and when they hatch, trout will often feed heavily just below the surface.
This slim, natural-looking pattern replicates the shape and movement of emerging midges as they rise through the water column. When fished slowly on a floating or intermediate line, the Stillwater Buzzer can be deadly during buzzer hatches when trout are feeding selectively.
A staple fly for stillwater anglers, the Stillwater Buzzer is often fished as part of a multi-fly setup or under an indicator, allowing it to drift naturally where trout expect to find emerging insects.
The Stillwater Buzzer Fly is most effective when trout are feeding on emerging midges. This often occurs during calm conditions when buzzers hatch in large numbers and trout cruise just below the surface.
