The Daiwl Bach is one of the most effective and widely used nymph patterns in stillwater fly fishing. Originating in Wales, this simple yet deadly fly imitates a variety of aquatic insects, particularly nymphs and emerging midges, making it incredibly versatile on both rivers and stillwaters.
Its slim profile, subtle flash, and natural movement make it irresistible to trout feeding below the surface. The Daiwl Bach can be fished on a floating line with a long leader or as part of a multi-fly setup, allowing it to drift naturally through the water column where trout are actively feeding.
A staple in many competition anglers’ fly boxes, the Daiwl Bach is known for its consistent success when fish are feeding subsurface but ignoring larger or more flashy patterns.
The Daiwl Bach is productive throughout the season but is particularly effective when trout are feeding on small subsurface insects. It works well when fished slowly on stillwaters or allowed to drift naturally in rivers.
