Join us for our Stream and Sea hosted trip to the sight fishing heaven that is the Bokong River from 4 to 8 January 2024. The sight fishing during this week is going to be on fire!
Early January is one of the best times of year to visit the Bokong. The rivers have good flow, run gin clear, and are filled with tons of dry fly eating Smallmouth Yellowfish.
The Stream and Sea hosted trip to the Bokong runs from 4 – 8 January 2024, which is perfect if you want to sneak in a last fish before the year starts.
The Makhangoa Community Camp is run by African Waters and lies on the banks of the Bokong River.
Each summer, thousands of Smallmouth Yellowfish run up the river from the Katse dam as the water warms up. This incredible event gives fly anglers the oppertunity to catch Smallmouth Yellowfish in gin clear water.
The main target on the Bokong river is the indegenous Smallmouth Yellowfish. They can be taken on nymphs and streamers, but the Bokong is best known as a dry fly fishing nirvana.
Smallmouth Yellowfish in this river can attain lengths of up to 70cm (almost 30 inches).
During the warmer summer months, the Bokong also holds a good population of resident rainbow and brown trout.
