Join us for our Stream and Sea hosted trip to the Karoolskraal Fly Fishing Camp from 20-24 March 2024. The Karoolskraal Fly Fishing Camp is situated on the majestic Breede River and offers some of the best spots for Grunter and Kob.
We’ll arrive at the camp on Wednesday, 20 March 2024 and depart on Sunday, 24 March 2024.
The Karoolskraal Fly Fishing Camp, run by Henkie Altena, is situated on the banks of the Breede River approximately 10km outside Witsand.
Each guest stays in his/her own safari tent equipped with stretchers and matrasses. An eco-friendly toilet and hot water showers service the camp.
The Karoolskraal Fly Fishing Camp is home to the Breede Grand Slam. This Grand Slam consists of a Grunter, Kob and Garrick on fly.
Grunter, a.k.a “the poor man’s permit”, needs no introduction. Although they’ve been “figured out”, Grunter remain a challenge for even the best fly anglers. Karoolskraal is located around some prime Grunter flats giving you the best chance to land one on fly.
Catching Kob on fly can be equally challenging and it’s all about finding the fish and keeping your fly in the zone.
Garrick, to us, is one of the most rewarding saltwater fish to target on fly in South Africa. The main reason for this is that it’s mostly a visual thing and that they love eating surface flies.
All three of these fish species require different techniques and the main purpose of this trip is to explore these methods.
We charge the same rate as the tour operators, so why would you book your Karoolskraal trip with us?
