Social Tying Evening – Local Reef Species with Conrad Botes

Join us on Monday, 29 January, at 6 pm at the Fresnaye Sports Club for our first Social Tying Evening for 2024. These social events are aimed at building the fly-tying and fishing community and creating a space where we can all learn from one another. If you’ve always wanted to give fly fishing and tying a go, our social tying events are the place to be.

For this month’s event, fly fishing guru Conrad Botes will be joining us to share one of his favourite patterns for local reef species like Blacktail. He’ll also cover typical conditions and structures to fish and what line and leader to use. Our coastline offers great opportunities to target these reef species and offers great fly fishing opportunities.

This is a tie-along event, so please bring your vice, tools, and thread along. We’ll cover the rest of the materials. If you don’t have a vice and want to give fly tying a go, please reach out to us and we’ll sort you out.

There will also be a short casting course by the one and only Andy van der Werff, which will end with a casting competition.

Booking is essential and costs R250, which includes the following:

• All the fly tying material for the flies, including extra to practice the pattern at home
• A boerewors roll and chips
• A beer
• Entry into the evening’s raffle

There’s also a non-tying option that costs R200, which includes the following:

• A boerewors roll and chips
• A beer
• Entry to the evening’s raffle

• Probably the main perk for you as a guest to one of our events is that you qualify for a 10% discount on any pre-orders. That means we send you a discount coupon that can be used on our shop prior to the event. Your order will be waiting at the event with your fly tying materials.
