The Smalblaar and Elandspad rivers are in urgent (and continuous) need of a proper clean up. Although fly anglers are probably not the source of this pollution, it is up to us to clean it up if we would like to keep the rivers pristine.
The Cape Piscatorial Society organises regular river clean up sessions and we urge you to join in. This river cleanup is on Saturday, 21 January 2023. It’s also now essential that you join at least one river cleanup session as a prerequisite for the Jan du Toit’s draw at the beginning of each season.
If you’d like to find out more about the river cleanup sessions, or you’d like to contribute to cleaning up the rivers in any way, please feel free to either contact us or the Cape Piscatorial Society.
We also urge each angler to carry a rubbish bag with them. At the end of your fishing day, pick up ay litter that you can find. It’s remarkable how much of a difference even a little effort can make.
Remember, a clean river is a happy river, a happy river has happy trout, and well, happy trout makes us fly anglers happy.
