Advanced Casting Clinic Distance and Double Haul – 28 September 2024

We have teamed up with one of our good friends, Andy van der Werff, to bring you this course on distance and the double-hail. Apart from being a good companion on the water and next to the campfire, Andy is certified as a casting instructor by the International Federation of Fly Fishers. This course is aimed at the fly angler who has the basic fly cast under control, but wants to add distance and line speed to their casting tool box. Yes, we know that distance and reach isn’t always the most important, but if you can double-haul properly and are able to get good distance, you’ll be able to reach “normal” fishing distances with less false casts and hence catch more fish.

This is a highly personalised and comprehensive course that will take you to the next level in fly-casting and improve your fishing results.

All attendees should bring the following along:

• Your normal/favourite fly-fishing rod, the one you are most comfortable with, and if you have a second rod of 1 to 2 weights up or down, bring that too. Try and stay in the 4 to 7 weight range.
• Matching reel and matching floating fly line. (A bright colour line is preferred but not essential)
• Tapered leaders (0x or 1x) of around 9ft long. It will give you the most consistent turnover results. I can supply on the day at an additional cost if required
• Sunscreen
• Hat
• Sunglasses
• Water
