Cormorant Fly

R30.00

The Cormorant Fly is a modern stillwater trout pattern designed to imitate chironomid pupae, bloodworms, and emerging aquatic insects commonly found in South African dams.

Slim, dark, and subtly flashy, the cormorant is especially effective when trout are feeding just below the surface or hovering mid-water over deeper areas. Its sparse profile and hint of movement closely resemble natural midge pupae, making it a deadly option on pressured stillwaters where trout have seen plenty of flies.

In South African conditions, the Cormorant excels when:

  • Trout are feeding on chironomids in deeper water
  • Fish are suspended and reluctant to move far
  • Cold winter conditions slow feeding behaviour
  • Natural, understated patterns outfish attractor flies

The Cormorant Fly is most commonly fished on a floating or intermediate line, either as a single fly or as part of a team, where it can be presented static or with a very slow retrieve.

Tied in-house by Stream and Sea, each cormorant is built with clean proportions, durable materials, and strong hooks to perform reliably on South African stillwaters.

When trout are feeding quietly and selectively, the Cormorant gets eaten.
